About the Augmented Chord
Two major 3rds stacked give the augmented triad. C augmented is C, E and G#.
The chord splits the octave into three equal parts. Caug, Eaug and G#aug have the same notes, so one shape moves up in steps of four frets.
Use it to link a major chord to the next chord, such as C, Caug, F. The raised 5th rises into the next chord's 3rd.
Intervals
- 1: Root, 0 semitones above the root
- 3: Major 3rd, 4 semitones above the root
- #5: Minor 6th, 8 semitones above the root
