About the Minor 7th Chord
Am7 is A, C, E and G. In a major key the ii, iii and vi chords are minor 7th chords.
It sounds softer than a plain minor chord. Funk players vamp on one m7 chord for a whole song.
The ii chord of a ii to V to I, such as Dm7 to G7 to Cmaj7, is a minor 7th chord.
